Sandy is a Legendary Brawler with moderately high health, an above-average movement speed, and immense utility with his Super but a moderately low damage output. He attacks by throwing sand that spread out and pierces through enemies. His Super summons a sandstorm that makes him and his allies invisible while inside it. His first Gadget, Sleep Stimulator, makes Sandy fall asleep momentarily to restore all of his missing health. His second Gadget, Sweet Dreams, makes his next attack apply a special stun to enemies that disappears when they take damage. His first Star Power, Rude Sands, allows his Super to slightly damage enemies inside it over time. His second Star Power, Healing Winds, allows his Super to slightly heal him and his allies inside it over time. His Hypercharge, Swift Winds, allows Sandy's next Super to increase his and allies movement speed while inside its radius. Enemies affected by Sandy's Hypercharge can't attack or use their Super, Gadget, or Hypercharge.
Attack: Pebble Blast
Sandy attacks by throwing piercing sand at his enemies that spreads in a wide cone formation, dealing rather low damage. The attack consists of 3 groups of sand shot from left to right. Only one group of sand can deal damage to an enemy.
Super: Sandstorm
Sandy throws a star-shaped object that creates a sandstorm in a large radius that lasts for 9 seconds and makes him and his allies invisible while inside it. Like Leon's Super, invisible Brawlers are visible to nearby enemies within 4 tiles. Spawnables such as Nita's Bear won't be concealed.
Brawlers carrying an item are still visible. Invisible Brawlers are still visible to the Siege Bot and the IKE turret in Siege. Brawlers are also still visible to robots such as those in Robo Rumble, Boss Fight, and the Angry Robo Modifier.
Gadgets
Sleep Stimulator
Sandy's Gadget immobilizes him for 1.5 seconds to restore all health. This Gadget can't be activated if Sandy is already at full health. Sandy can still take damage and be defeated while the Gadget is active. This Gadget can be interrupted by knockbacks, pulls, and stuns. If Sandy is the Big Brawler in Big Game, he only heals 10% of his maximum health. This Gadget is affected by healing debuffs such as Crow's poison.
Sweet Dreams
When Sandy activates this Gadget, his next attack stuns enemies for 1 second. However, if they're damaged by any source during the stun duration, the stun ends prematurely. A Gadget symbol will glow above Sandy's head signaling this Gadget's usage, as well as a glowing attack joystick. This Gadget's cooldown starts after this attack is shot.
Mythic Gear: Exhausting Storm
With this Gear equipped, enemies inside Sandy's Super will deal 20% less damage. Attacks shot from outside the Super will still deal full damage to Sandy and his allies.
Star Powers
Rude Sands
Sandy's sandstorm now deals 216 damage per second to enemies inside it for a maximum of up to 1944 damage over 9 seconds. This effect can stack with multiple sandstorms.
Healing Winds
Sandy's sandstorm now heals Sandy and his allies for 380 health per second for a maximum of up to 3420 health over 9 seconds. This effect can stack with multiple sandstorms.
Hypercharge: Swift Winds
When activated, Sandy's next Super prevents affected enemies from using any attacks, Supers, Gadgets, or Hypercharges, similar to Otis' Super, for 0.5 seconds. This Hypercharge doesn't affect passive effects like the Speed Gear's speed boost or Bo's Circling Eagle Star Power. This Hypercharge works on spawnables like Nita's bear, Penny's cannon, or Jessie's turret; however, it won't affect passive turrets like 8-Bit's Turret and Pam's turret. For the whole duration, a red, crossed-out symbol will show above the head of the affected target, signifying that this effect is active, and if it hits an enemy Brawler, the affected Brawler's screen will turn a bit dark. This sandstorm will also increase the movement speed of Sandy and his teammates when they are in its range by 20%. Sandy also gains a 25% speed boost, a 25% damage boost, and a 5% shield boost.
Tips
Game Modes and Maps
- Sandy's Super is very effective in 3v3 modes because teammates can be positioned stationary while in the vicinity of his Super. His Super allows him and his allies to reach the mode objective, whether it's collecting Bolts in Siege, collecting Gems in Gem Grab, capturing a zone in Hot Zone, and hiding from Hunters as the Boss or sneaking up on the Boss as the Hunters in Big Game.
- Sandy is useful in Heist and Siege because of his Super, but Sandy isn't too viable in Heist due to his low damage output. Sandy's Star Powers can be used on offense or defense in these events. You can either use Rude Sands to damage the safe/IKE along with you and your allies attacking, or you can use Healing Winds to heal your teammates while attacking because enemies will be attempting to stop you from attacking, and healing is especially useful in Siege because the IKE turret will continuously attack your team. In addition, in Siege, due to Sandy's above-average movement speed and health, he's ideal for obtaining Bolts. You can also use Bolts as bait for close-ranged Brawlers who can stand in his sandstorm near a Bolt, in which they're invisible, and defeat an enemy who attempts to retrieve the Bolt.
- In Brawl Ball, you can use Sandy's Super to cover the ball's vicinity. Use the ball as bait and if an enemy attempts to retrieve it, a close-ranged Brawler such as Bull could defeat them. After they are defeated, use the time to allow a fast Brawler or self-passer such as Leon, Stu, or Edgar to kick the ball to the goal. In addition, Sandy has above-average movement speed, therefore making Sandy an ideal ball carrier.
Recommended Build
- Sandy's Sleep Stimulator Gadget should be used behind obstacles, in bushes, or around corners to avoid being defeated by enemies since Sandy is vulnerable to damage in this state. Using the Gadget in a sandstorm is also very effective as long as there aren't any enemies scouting the sandstorm.
- Sandy's Sweet Dreams Gadget is very versatile, especially in certain situations. For example, you can use it to quickly escape from an enemy, to push past goal defenders in Brawl Ball to score, to stun the enemies in the zone and get quick capturing, or to even save yourself if a Brawler with a moving ability such as Buzz or Edgar uses their ability to rush in and attempt to defeat you.
- A great way to use Sandy's Sweet Dreams Gadget in Duo Showdown is to play with Dynamike with his Satchel Charge Gadget by first hitting the enemy while Dynamike stuns them again with his Gadget. This way, you can get a lot of hits and potentially kill any team in this mode.
- Using Sandy's Rude Sands Star Power with the Vision Gear allows you to see enemies hidden anywhere, whether if it's an invisible Leon or bush-campers, which is guaranteed to be useful when playing 3v3 Events.
Strategies
- When using Sandy's Super, you should place the sandstorm so that it touches the edges of bushes. This allows you and your teammates to use the sandstorm to head into bushes and access larger areas while the enemies believe you and your allies are still inside the sandstorm. Once the sandstorm disappears, the enemies will be confused and you and your allies could possibly ambush them.
- Sandy's wide and piercing attack makes it very effective against grouped-up enemies. Use this to your advantage to charge your Super faster.
- Sandy's Rude Sands Star Power can be used for area control, and while the damage over time is minor, the large radius and long duration prevents healing and can slowly drain the enemies' health if they enter the sandstorm and the area it's placed on, allowing you and your teammates to possibly defeat them or force the enemy to stay far from the area, which is very effective for area control-based events such as Gem Grab and Hot Zone. Sandy's Rude Sands Star Power also counters other Sandy's Supers. If you throw your Super onto their Super, the damage ticks make enemies visible. This makes it much easier for your team to fight against the opposing Sandy. Sandy's Rude Sands Star Power can also be used in maps with an abundance of bushes such as Snake Prairie or Cavern Churn to detect bush-camping enemies.
