Sam is an Epic Brawler who could be unlocked as a Brawl Pass reward at Tier 30 in Season 14: Robot Factory, or can be obtained from the Starr Road. He has high health and a variable damage output. His Trait lets him start a match with his Super already charged. He attacks by punching enemies with two quick punches that deal more damage if Sam has his Knuckle Busters equipped. For his Super, Sam throws his Knuckle Busters or makes them fly back to him, damaging enemies in its path and altering his attack. Sam can also charge his Super by picking up his Knuckle Busters from the ground. Sam's first Gadget, Magnetic Field, pulls in enemies around his Knuckle Busters. His second Gadget, Pulse Repellent, makes his next Super knock back enemies around the Knuckle Busters when they land. His first Star Power, Hearty Recovery, heals part of Sam's lost health when picking up his Knuckle Busters. His second Star Power, Remote Recharge, automatically charges Sam's Super if enemies are near his Knuckle Busters while they're on the ground.
Trait
Sam's Trait allows him to start a match or respawn with a fully charged Super.
Attack: Heavy Haymakers
With his Knuckle Busters equipped, Sam attacks enemies with two short-ranged piercing punches in a wide cone, and without his Knuckle Busters equipped, Sam's attack deal half the damage but attacks quicker and in a smaller spread. Sam's reload speed also changes; with his Knuckle Busters, Sam reloads slower, and he reloads faster without them equipped.
Super: Knuckle Busters
If Sam has his Knuckle Busters equipped, he throws them in front of him, piercing through enemies along the way before landing on the ground. After throwing his Knuckle Busters, Sam also boosts his movement speed by 25% for 2.5 seconds. Without his Knuckle Busters, Sam can charge his Super by either dealing damage to enemies, by picking them up, or by using his Remote Recharge Star Power; activating his Super makes his Knuckle Busters fly back to him, piercing through enemies along the way and damaging them for half the damage they do when leaving Sam's hands. Sam can pick up his Knuckle Busters if they are on the ground, which will instantly charge his Super. The Knuckle Busters stay on the ground until Sam picks them up, they fly back to him, when he is defeated, a round is over in Knockout, or a goal is scored in Brawl Ball.
Gadgets
Magnetic Field
Upon activation, enemies within a 2.33-tile radius around Sam's Knuckle Busters will be pulled into them. This Gadget can only be activated if Sam doesn't have his Knuckle Busters on. He can use this Gadget if he is within 14 tiles of his Knuckle Busters.
Pulse Repellent
Activating this Gadget allows Sam's next Super to knock back enemies in a 2.17-tile radius around his Knuckle Busters when they land. This can only be activated if Sam has his Knuckle Busters and his Super charged up. A Gadget symbol will glow above Sam's head signaling the Gadget's usage, as well as a glowing Super joystick. The Gadget's cooldown starts after he uses his Super.
Star Powers
Hearty Recovery
Every time Sam picks up his Knuckle Busters from the ground, he heals for 20% of his missing health. The amount of health Sam can heal can be affected by outside health buffs or healing debuffs.
Remote Recharge
When Sam's Knuckle Busters are on the ground, enemies in a 2.17-tile radius around them passively charge's Sam's Super, similar to Buzz's Trait. All enemy Brawlers within this circle charge Sam's Super by 10% per second each or 10 seconds for one enemy. Sam charges his Super faster if there are multiple enemies inside the radius. His Super still charges even with invisible or bush-camping enemies. Ally Sams will have their Star Power radius shown, while enemy Sams will have their Star Power radius hidden.
Tips
- When Sam attacks with his Knuckle Busters on he hits twice, first to the very left of the cone range of the attack and then to the very right. Moving counter-clockwise around him can effectively make one of his attacks miss, so to counter that - to make both punches land - don't stand too close to the enemy and move clockwise around the enemy.
- Sam's Trait makes him very useful in Brawl Ball, since he starts the match with his Super charged up and unless he uses his Super, he can use that to get the ball and have a super-kick ready to go.
- Since Sam's ammo recharges faster without his Knuckle Busters, try reloading all his ammo before retrieving his Knuckle Busters.
- Since Sam starts the game with his Super already charged up and it gives him a short speed boost after using it, he can use his Super at the very start of a game to get to a specific part of the map or to reach a specific thing faster than other Brawlers such as the Gem Mine, the Blue Bounty Star, etc. Be careful however, because throwing your Knuckle Busters close to where enemies are can make them difficult to collect. Due to this, this strategy works best in Showdown due to the large amount of space in Showdown maps.
- Sam's Magnetic Field Gadget makes his Super amazing for area control, since he can activate the Gadget when enemies bunch up together in the Hot Zone, for example; to then kill them easily.
- Sam's Pulse Repellant Gadget is also very good for area control, since he can get enemies away from a spot, like the Gem Spawn in Gem Grab, without much difficulty. Pulse Repellant is also good for close up fights. By throwing your Knuckle Busters at a pinned enemy against a wall, to knock them back.
- Sam's Hearty Recovery Star Power can be game-changing in maps with lots of walls, which Sam can use to throw the Knuckle Busters to and then instantly grab them. Repeating this process many times will put Sam to full health after a fight in a matter of seconds.
- Sam's Remote Recharge Star Power can help Sam get his Knuckle Busters back in open maps or in situations where can't just go and get them normally.
- Sam's Knuckle Busters do not extend their range if their endpoint is water, making it possible to be unable to manually collect them. Be careful throwing them around bodies of water, as accidently throwing the Knuckle Busters into large enough water bodies will force Sam to fight without them until he can recall them, greatly hindering his damage output and making his Gadgets useless. This can be partially remedied with his Remote Recharge Star Power if the location of the water is close to enemies.
