Carl is a Super Rare Brawler. He has moderately high health and a moderate damage output. When he attacks, Carl boomerangs his pickaxe, damaging and piercing through any enemies hit while the pickaxe is flying forward or traveling back to Carl, and consuming his only ammo which reloads when the pickaxe returns. His Super momentarily sends him into a crazy spin, doubling his movement speed and allowing him to damage enemies he gets close to for its duration. His first Gadget, Heat Ejector, makes his next attack leave hot rocks that sets enemies who touch them on fire to burn over time. His second Gadget, Flying Hook, makes Carl's next attack pull him to the furthest point of its range. His first Star Power, Power Throw, increases his pickaxe's speed, effectively decreasing his reload time. His second Star Power, Protective Pirouette, grants him a significant damage reduction shield during his Super.

Attack: Pickaxe

"Carl throws his Pickaxe like a boomerang. After he catches the returning Pickaxe, he can throw it again."

Carl throws a pickaxe that deals damage to enemies both while flying forward and when returning to him. The pickaxe can return to Carl through walls, but can't be thrown through walls. If Carl throws his pickaxe against a wall, the travel time of his pickaxe is decreased. Carl's attack doesn't reload like normal Brawlers, because once his pickaxe returns to him, Carl reloads his only ammo bar. When Carl respawns, his only ammo bar will reload rather slowly. In Brawl Ball, Carl can shoot the Ball without consuming ammo. Carl has an attack cooldown of 0.5 seconds.

Super: Tailspin

"Carl goes into a crazy spin for a few seconds, flailing around and damaging nearby opponents."

Carl spins around with his pickaxe, dealing damage to all targets he's close to every 0.25 seconds. Carl's movement speed is doubled while using his Super. This effect lasts for 3 seconds and stops immediately when he's stunned or knocked back.

Heat Ejector

"The next pickaxe Carl throws will drop a trail of hot rocks behind it! Opponents that touch them are set on fire, and receive 660 damage per second."

Carl's next attack will drop burning rocks on the ground while it travels. The rocks last for 3.9 seconds each, and if an enemy touches them, they will be burned for 660 damage per second for 4 seconds. The number of rocks dropped is dependent on his throw; more rocks are dropped the further his pickaxe travels. The burning damage does not stack from multiple rocks, but an enemy can be burned again after the initial burn stops. A Gadget symbol will glow above Carl's head signaling this Gadget's usage, as well as a glowing attack joystick. The Gadget's cooldown starts after using this attack.

Flying Hook

"Carl's next attack makes his pickaxe pull him to the farthest point of the attack."

Carl's next attack pulls him with his pickaxe to the furthest point of its range, allowing him to travel over lakes and through rope fences if those obstacles are in range. The attack stays slightly in front of him but will only deal damage once, and the pickaxe doesn't return to Carl's old position. A Gadget symbol will glow above Carl's head signaling this Gadget's usage, as well as a glowing attack joystick. The Gadget's cooldown starts after using this attack.

Power Throw

"Carl throws his Pickaxe with 10% more speed, allowing it to travel faster and return faster."

Carl's pickaxe projectile speed is increased by 300 points (10% faster than a normal attack). This also decreases the attack cooldown, allowing him to attack faster against walls.

Protective Pirouette

"During Carl's Super, all damage he receives is reduced by 35%."

Carl shields all damage taken by 35% for the duration of his Super or until his Super stops.

Tips

  • When Carl's pickaxe hits an obstacle, it bounces off and returns, allowing Carl to to throw it again faster. He can utilize this mechanic by pushing enemy Brawlers near a wall. Because his pickaxe will return faster after it hits the wall, Carl can do bursts of damage quickly, especially with his Power Throw Star Power, and he can utilize this to break Power Cube crates in Showdown. This can be highly effective in Heist where Carl can utilize walls near the enemy safe to deal consistent and quick damage.
  • Carl's Super does a lot of damage but at a short range. Be sure to get close to an enemy Brawler to maximize its damage, but it is advisable to avoid short-ranged Brawlers who deal damage quicker than Carl can.
  • When using Carl's Super offensively, make sure to pay attention to his Super's mechanics. Carl's Super doesn't have a shield-like Rosa's Super does, making him more likely to get burst down by enemies. However, if he has his Protective Pirouette Star Power, he can partially protect himself during one, though it's still never recommended to go near close-ranged Brawlers like Bull or El Primo with his Super to deal damage to them as they both deal great damage at close range, have high health and can use their Supers to interrupt or escape from Carl's Super.
  • Carl can't use his main attack while using his Super, but he can still use his Super while his pickaxe is still flying.
  • Carl's Super and Flying Hook Gadget can be used to get possession of the ball quicker than anyone else can. However, Carl cannot pick up the ball while using his Super.
  • Keep in mind that the pickaxe's returning ability may pose a disadvantage when attacking while traveling inside bushes. This gives the opponents ample time to perform prediction shots.
  • Carl's Super makes him have one of the fastest movement speeds in the game. Use this to escape (especially helpful with the Protective Pirouette Star Power as it lets him survive more shots) or to reach low-health enemies.
  • When Carl's pickaxe returns, it can go through walls and obstacles. This can be crucial when opponents only need one more hit to be defeated but are hiding behind a wall. He can take advantage of this by throwing his pickaxe and moving towards the enemy behind the wall before it returns allowing it to get an indirect hit.
  • Carl's Super can be interrupted by knockback or stun effects such as Gene's Super and Bibi's Home Run attack. Avoid using his Super offensively against Brawlers like these who can easily cancel his Super.
  • Carl's Heat Ejector Gadget can be used to block the path of incoming enemies in events such as Brawl Ball. It can also be paired with his Super to secure a lot of damage to the safe in Heist.
  • Carl's Flying Hook Gadget is useful for joining to action and retreating in events like Showdown, Gem Grab, and Siege, further helped by allowing him to travel over lakes and rope fences to a certain extent. It is also an excellent tool to counter defenseless Brawlers at close-quarters like Piper, especially if paired with his Super. It can also be used to escape from danger such as if you're ambushed (i.e. by Shelly).
  • An effective tactic is to use Carl's Flying Hook Gadget to get close to an enemy and then use your Super on them. This almost always will require his Protective Pirouette Star Power as most Brawlers have the means to defeat you, and can defeat almost all Brawlers except those with high health, with Protective Pirouette equipped.
