Brawl Boxes were the primary source of obtaining Brawlers, resources, Gadgets, and Star Powers. Unlike their successors, they could not give cosmetics. They could be obtained from the Shop, Brawl Pass, or Trophy Road. Big Boxes were equivalent to 3 regular boxes, and Mega Boxes were equivalent to 10 regular boxes. The Omega Box was a one-time box added for the #ByeByeBoxes Event to mark the initial removal of Boxes, and was equivalent to 30 regular boxes.
Brawl Boxes could contain Coins, Power Points, Gadgets, Star Powers, new Brawlers, and a bonus 3% chance for Token Doublers doubling the next 200 Tokens earned from matches. Omega Boxes also always contained 10 Gems. A Brawl Box had a 10% chance of giving Power Points that can be given to any Brawler. Duplicate Brawlers are not received, and once enough Power Points to get a Brawler to level 11 are collected, no more Power Points would be found for that Brawler. When all of the player's unlocked Brawlers have the maximum amount of Power Points, Brawl Boxes would no longer contain Power Points, and more Coins would be awarded instead based on double the amount of Power Points that would've been received instead. The amount of Coins and Power Points rewarded could vary significantly; however, a minimum was set to guarantee progress from every box opened.
Brawl Boxes awarded rewards based on draws. Brawl Boxes had a maximum of 2 Power Point drops and a single draw, Big Boxes 3 Power Point drops and 3 draws, Mega Boxes 5 Power Point drops and 10 draws, and Omega Boxes 10 Power Point drops and 30 draws. If the next item was a new Brawler/Gadget/Star Power, the box in the bottom right corner next to rewards remaining glowed a bright red.
Every 30 draws, the player's luck value increased by 0.0048%. The player's luck value raised the chances of getting a Legendary Brawler, and it decreased based on the rarity of the Brawler. Rares decreased luck by 0.0048%, Super Rares 0.0096%, Epics 0.0144%, Mythics 0.024%, and Legendaries by 0.048%. "Chromatic" was a rarity given to Brawlers obtained from the Brawl Pass. The current season's Chromatic Brawler was considered a Legendary Brawler, the previous season's Chromatic was considered a Mythic, and all others were considered Epics. Players could view the current rarity of a specific Chromatic Brawler for that Brawl Pass season in its Brawler menu using the "i" underneath its class.
Every new player started the game with predetermined rewards: a Rare Brawler in the 6th draw, another Rare Brawler in the 24th draw, and a Super Rare Brawler in the 48th draw. Within the first 48 draws, no other Brawlers could be unlocked from Brawl Boxes.
The player's overall chances could be viewed by pressing the "i" in the descriptions of Big and Mega Boxes in the Shop. All drops were guaranteed after a certain number of draws; this is affected by the drop chance. The lower the drop chance, the higher the number of draws that was needed to guarantee that specific drop. All drop chances increased when all drops of a rarity, i.e, Epic Brawlers, were unlocked.
In the December 2022 update, Brawl Boxes were removed from the game. With their initial removal, Brawlers, became available to purchase with Gems at all times rather than timed offers, and similarly Gadgets and Star Powers became available to purchase with Coins at all times. Starting in the June 2024 update, various reworked Boxes were added back, giving both progression and cosmetics.
