"Ash has the thankless job of keeping the park clean. He's climbed into a trash can to protect himself from broken glass and rat bites. It makes him grumpy!"
Ash Portrait

Ash is an Epic Brawler who could be unlocked as a Brawl Pass reward at Tier 30 in Season 8: Once Upon A Brawl, or can be obtained from the Starr Road. He has high health, a variable damage output and movement speed, and a short attack range. Ash's Rage bar gets filled by a certain amount whenever he deals or receives damage and it gives Ash speed boosts and damage boosts that increase the more his Rage bar is filled. He attacks by smashing his broom on the ground, sending a piercing shockwave that deals more damage the more Ash's Rage bar is filled. His Super spawns five robotic rats with low health that chase the nearest enemy and explode on contact. His first Gadget, Chill Pill, heals Ash with the healed amount depending on how much his Rage bar is filled. His second Gadget, Rotten Banana, instantly increases his Rage in exchange for some of his current health. His first Star Power, First Bash, doubles the amount of Rage charged if he attacks an enemy when his ammo bars are full. His second Star Power, Mad As Heck, boosts his reload speed the more Rage Ash has.

Rage Bar

Rage

Ash has a Rage bar that gets filled when he deals damage or when he receives damage and will slowly deplete when Ash isn’t dealing or receiving damage. The Rage bar gives Ash speed and damage boosts depending on how much it's filled. The Rage bar is divided into three segments. If one segment is filled, his attack deals 50% more damage and his movement speed is increased to 770 points. If two segments are filled, his attack will deal 100% more damage and his movement speed is increased to 820. The Rage bar does not grant any more boosts when it’s fully charged. In total, it takes 15 seconds for the entire bar to decay. Attacks charge it by 14.5%, Supers by 15%, and enemy Brawler damage received charges it fully if Ash takes 125% of his maximum health. Allies and enemies cannot see the Rage Bar, but can see the castle icon showing the amount of Rage Ash has.

Attack: Clean-Up

"Ash angrily smashes down with his broom. Get out of the way or you might bite the dust!"

Ash winds up his broom and smashes it on the ground, sending a piercing shockwave. Although Ash reloads relatively quickly, the wind-up inhibits him from bursting his attack. This attack takes 0.7 seconds to complete.

Super: Little Helpers

"Robotic rats for cleaning up? That's right, they explode on contact, dealing damage to opponents and greatly increasing Ash's Rage level."

Ash throws down 5 robotic rats with low health and damage that chase the nearest enemy and explode upon contact with them in a 2-tile radius.

Gadgets

Chill Pill

"Though furious, Ash has to collect himself. A full rage meter will recover 3240 health when this Gadget is popped - less Rage, less recovery."
GD-Ash1

Upon activation, Ash will heal for up to 3240 health if his Rage bar is fully filled. However, this resets all of Ash's Rage and this Gadget cannot be used if Ash has no Rage.

Rotten Banana

"Ash loses 25% health and instantly gains 40% rage."
GD-Ash2

Ash instantly loses 25% of his current health and gains 40% of his Rage. Since the health reduction is based on his current health, Ash cannot defeat himself when using this Gadget, unless he is marked by R-T. The health reduction from this Gadget does not trigger his Trait. Ash can only use this Gadget when he has 2 health or more.

Star Powers

First Bash

"When hitting an opponent with his attack charges full, Ash gets even more angry. His Rage goes up by 200%."
SP-Ash1

When Ash has all his ammo, the first enemy he hits charges his Rage bar by 37.5% (instead of 12.5%). This doesn't affect his Super’s Rage charge rate and does not stack if he hits multiple enemies with his first attack.

Mad As Heck

"Ash progressively gains up to 40% faster reload speed, equal to how enraged he's become."
SP-Ash2

Ash reloads his attack up to 40% faster the more Rage he has. This Star Power will still take effect even without maximum Rage.

Tips

  • The most important thing you need to do while playing Ash is to charge up his Rage bar as Ash also needs his Rage to match other heavyweights on damage. Normally, Ash deals moderately low damage and has a normal movement speed but better potential can be extracted by filling up his Rage bar. Because Ash has a short range, it’s best to deal or take damage in enclosed areas due to the abundance of cover that allows Ash to attack enemies with ease or to heal up.
  • Ash’s Super in a way can act like Tick’s Super. The rats have low health, so they’re best used against low-health enemies to force the enemies to attack, prevent them from healing, and make them waste their ammo. It’s also niche to place the rats to surround an enemy so that they’re guaranteed to hit them and that his Rage bar is charged significantly. However, be aware of Brawlers with attacks that can hit multiple entities as they can easily eliminate the rats.
  • You can use Ash's rats to block incoming, non-piercing projectiles like Bea's supercharged shot or a far-ranged Piper shot, especially when Ash is on low health. Place the rats in front of him at the right time so the enemy’s shots hit the rats. You may also auto-aim Ash's Super, which will spawn the rats around him, also blocking the enemy’s shots.
  • Ash can be used in very aggressive strategies. You can throw his Super onto the enemy team, which will weaken the enemies and charge up your Rage bar significantly. Then, use your fully charged Rage bar's damage boost and your attack's piercing ability to defeat the enemies.
  • Ash’s Chill Pill Gadget can provide a quick and significant heal to Ash. However, Ash’s Rage will be depleted by using this Gadget. Because of this, it’s best to use this Gadget with full Rage, with low health, and with a close-ranged enemy chasing you so that you can use your Gadget to heal significantly and then attack the enemy while also recharging your Rage and forcing the enemy to flee. You may also gain your Rage back by using your Super after you heal as the rats will recharge his Rage significantly.
  • Ash’s attack delay makes him vulnerable to high-burst damage Brawlers like Bull who can deal massive damage quickly. When facing these Brawlers, attack them with the tip of Ash’s range so that they can’t hit all of their projectiles and defeat him easily.
  • Though Ash’s attack and Super charge his Rage significantly, his short attack range makes charging his Rage and Super quite difficult to do. Because of this, you should head to choke points because enemies will usually be bunched up in those areas and Ash can charge his Rage significantly by attacking all the enemies or by using his First Bash Star Power to charge more of his Rage.
  • Be wary when taking damage to charge your Rage because while it can be charged significantly from taking little damage, taking too much damage can leave you more vulnerable.
  • As a tank, Ash is strongest on maps with a high frequency of walls and/or bushes.
  • Ash, despite being a tank, can’t match other tanks due to his relatively low damage at low Rage and his attack delay. As such, it’s best to take or deal damage to fill up his Rage and then use his Rage's damage boost to match other tanks.
  • Ash with his Rotten Banana Gadget is strong when paired with a healer such as Byron. Since Ash gains Rage while taking damage, a healer can offset that damage and allow Ash to gain his Rage more effectively. With a healer behind Ash, he can use his Rage's speed and damage boost to catch up to enemies and defeat them while the healer provides Ash more survivability.
  • In maps with teleporters like Luis' Revenge, Ash can wait in nearby bushes next to teleporters and ambush enemies going through or past the other teleporter. This works better with First Bash because he can deal more damage to the enemies due to charging up more rage.
  • If you have full rage, it's better to not use your super, as the super is intended to charge your rage bar. The only exception to this is to try to finish off a low health brawler.
